Director of Engineering, Measurement - Triplewhale

Know the systems your teams own and be deep into the technical details. Jump into designs, code, debugging, or production issues when your involvement can help. Stay technically involved without taking ownership away from team leads. Be the primary engineering counterpart to our Director of Product for Measurement, sharing accountability for customer outcomes. Resolve disagreements between Product and Engineering through clear reasoning and explicit trade-offs. Explain complex technical issues clearly to leadership and nontechnical stakeholders. Represent Triple Whale in technical and strategic discussions with partners such as Meta, Google, and TikTok. Use AI extensively in your own work, including coding, technical investigation, analysis, and planning. Build and improve AI-assisted workflows and agent-based automation that solve real problems for the teams. Expect team leads to develop their own practical AI proficiency and apply it to their work. Validate AI-generated output and maintain clear standards for security, privacy, and data quality. Evaluate tools through hands-on use and demonstrated results. 2-3 years of proven experience managing engineering teams and leads across multiple teams, with accountability for people, delivery, and production systems. Experience leading in a fast-growing startup, bringing clarity to evolving priorities and developing practical ways of working as the organization scales. Strong coordination skills and the ability to manage frequent context switching without losing important details or leaving issues unresolved. Sound judgment to balance competing input, set clear priorities, and help teams move forward confidently as details take shape. Experience scaling engineering organizations, including hiring and developing strong leaders, building high-performing teams, and demonstrating strong judgment in identifying top performers and underperformance, with the ability to make clear, timely talent decisions when needed. A strong hands-on software engineering background and current ability to read code, review architecture, and investigate complex production problems. Significant experience working with big data and data engineering teams in very high-scale production environments. A strong understanding of distributed systems, data pipelines, analytical workloads, and their operational trade-offs. Deep attention to detail and the ability to learn unfamiliar tools, codebases, and domains independently. Advanced, practical AI proficiency, including substantial use of AI coding tools, LLMs, and agent-based workflows. You can demonstrate your work, explain its limitations, and show how you validate results. High emotional intelligence and genuine respect for people, paired with clear accountability. Experience with streaming data systems and analytical databases such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar technologies.
